Privacy Policy
Effective: 2026-02-26
1. Our Approach
We collect a limited amount of information needed to run the site, secure accounts, review submissions, and respond to people who contact us.
We do not sell personal information. We use information for site operations, abuse prevention, account management, moderation, support, and legal compliance.
Where local law gives you additional privacy choices, we aim to offer them through account tools or direct contact paths without asking you to guess the right workflow.
2. Public Content
The primary content on All The Words On The Screen is user-submitted public posts and related profile activity.
If you post publicly, the post content, title reference, confirmation counts, and your username may be visible to anyone and may appear in site search, public pages, and indexing.
3. Account Information
If you create an account, we store the information required to operate that account, including:
- Username
- Email address
- Password hash or linked sign-in identifier
- Policy acceptance records
- Account status and verification state
If you use profile and preference tools, we may also store avatar settings, pending email-change requests, followed titles, hidden posts, muted titles, blocked users, privacy requests, and account deactivation requests.
We use this information to:
- Securing your account
- Operate account, profile, and preference features
- Record the policy versions accepted during account creation
- Respond to support, privacy, correction, and legal requests
4. Communications and Mailing Lists
If you contact us, subscribe to the newsletter, request volunteer or service information, or send a legal or correction request, we store the information you submit so we can process and respond to it.
Communication records may include your name, email address, message content, request topic, IP address, user agent, request path, queue status, and related operational logs.
Newsletter messages use a confirmation flow, and every newsletter message includes an unsubscribe path.
5. Cookies, Analytics, and Similar Storage
We use essential browser storage for session management, CSRF protection, sign-in state, and security hardening. These are required for core site operation.
We also offer an analytics preference for limited measurement cookies so we can understand site usage trends. Analytics is off until you grant it.
Review and update your browser-level preference any time on our Cookie Policy and Preferences page.
6. Technical, Security, and Processor Data
We log limited technical information to keep the site working and investigate abuse, including:
- IP address
- User agent
- Session and rate-limit activity
- Moderation, profile-update, and communication-attempt records
We use that information for authentication, abuse throttling, moderation review, troubleshooting, and auditability.
We rely on service providers for infrastructure categories such as hosting, email delivery, analytics, and authentication support. Those providers process data on our behalf to deliver the specific service they power, not to buy or resell your information from us.
7. Privacy Rights and Retention
Signed-in users can submit privacy requests through in-account tools when available. If you cannot access your account, use our privacy contact path.
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to request access, export, correction, deletion, or restriction review for information associated with your account.
Privacy requests are routed through an intake review first. We may confirm receipt, ask for identity or scope clarification, and send a closure response when the request is completed, denied, or redirected to another workflow.
- Account and policy acceptance records: kept while the account is active and afterward as needed for audit, dispute handling, and legal compliance.
- Moderation, abuse, and security records: kept as long as reasonably necessary to investigate, prevent repeated abuse, and defend site operations.
- Newsletter and contact records: kept until the message thread or subscription state is no longer operationally necessary, then retained only as needed for suppression, compliance, or troubleshooting.
Privacy requests do not replace moderation appeals, correction review, or copyright notices. If the issue is really about an enforcement action, factual accuracy, or infringement, we may redirect you to the correct path.
Storefront purchases, donation records, or creator-platform transactions may also be governed by the external seller or processor that handled the transaction.
8. Updates to This Policy
If this policy changes, the updated version date will appear on this page. Account creation records store accepted policy versions for supported policies.
